Lunch at Houldsworth Valley

As you will be aware significant changes have been underway regarding School Food; cooking has returned to the curriculum, (although for us it never went away,) every pupil in Reception, Year 1 and 2 are now eligible for Free School Meals and from January 2015, new food standards were introduced.

New standards for School Food came into effect in January 2015 and we are following them to make sure we continue to ensure our pupils get the nutrition they need across the whole school day.

Good food and good food culture has been shown to lead not only to healthier, happier and more fulfilled children, but to improved educational attainment. Evidence from those areas that already provide universal Free School Meals shows that children eat more healthily and perform better academically. Schools in those areas have also reported improved behaviour and atmosphere as a result of all pupils eating together every day.

New standards for School Food have recently been published and will come into effect in January 2015 and we will be following them to make sure we continue to ensure our pupils get the nutrition they need across the whole school day. For more information please visit the following link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/standards-for-school-food-in-england

We believe that the school lunchtime is a great opportunity for all our children to sit down together and enjoy their healthy and tasty meal, while developing their social skills.  We hope that all parents will take up this offer of a Free School Meal for our infant pupils.

Our School has its own well equipped kitchen and provides fresh, tasty and well balanced meals daily through EATS, (www.eats-catering.co.uk.) Mrs McDougall, our brilliant School Cook and her team always endeavour to ensure all children having a school meal are catered for and able to accommodate any special dietary requirements.

We ask that ALL PARENTS complete the School Meals Registration Form. This is important so that we can continue to register pupils who attract Pupil Premium funding, which is worth £1,300 a year per pupil for our school. The registration form can be downloaded here

Children can opt to have a packed lunch or alternate between both, having dinners for individual days in a week. It is important to book these in advance at the start of a week in order that quantities can be organised accurately; you will appreciate occasional minor menu amendments are a necessity.

If your child will be bringing a packed lunch to school our helpful packed lunch guide can be downloaded here.

Menus are sent home termly and displayed around school, notably by the class doors. You can also access information about EATS as well as current menus at www.eats-catering.co.uk/page/schools Please take time to check the menus to ensure you can be confident of your child enjoying the two courses planned for the day(s) you require.

For children in Years 3 to 6 the cost of a school meal is £2.30 per day. A week of school meals is £11:50. Please make all cheques (payable to Suffolk County Council) or provide cash in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name. School dinners are paid for on a Monday only and must be paid for in advance of any dinners taken. On other days please use the secure box to pay for dinners remembering that monies are collected daily but collated on Mondays only.

If you have any questions, please contact the School’s Administration Team who will be happy to help.
