Welcome to Caterpillars Class

Literacy and Maths

In Caterpillars and Butterflies, we have been learning all about people who help us. In Literacy, we have been learning the story ‘The Jolly Postman’. We wrote letters to the Jolly Postman telling him what we wanted to be when we grew up! We have also been learning about The Fire Service. We designed our own fire engines and labelled them using wow words. Our classrooms have had lots of exciting areas so that we can play and explore the ‘People Who Help Us’ topic. We have enjoyed playing in the postoffice, learning how to weigh packages and post our own letters. We have also enjoyed playing in the fire engine and police station! In our Maths learning we have been exploring numbers to 20, ordering them and finding 1 more and 1 less using practical apparatus, such as cubes and numberlines.

This half term, we have had lots of enrichment activities to support our learning about ‘People Who Help Us’. Our ‘sparkly start’ to the topic was a visit to the local post-box. We posted our letters and received a surprise at home! We also had a visit from the fire service. They brought in their fire engine and we even got to sit inside! They talked to us a lot about fire safety and what we should do in an emergency. Our topic finished with a very exciting visit from the vets! The vet told us lots of information about how they help animals and brought some animals for us to look at. We listened to the dogs chest using a stethoscope and learnt how to care for animals such as guinea pigs and bearded dragons! We learnt how to ask super questions using different question starters such as what, where, when, how and why. We thought about lots of interesting questions to ask the vets. We investigated what was Butterflies and Caterpillars favourite pet and made a class pictogram! During circle time, we have been talking about how to keep a pet happy and healthy.

Next half term

Next half-term, we will be learning all about The Hungry Caterpillar and Growth. We can’t wait for Spring so that we can have further outdoor learning opportunities!
